TAJCO’s sustainability vision
We believe in a world where carbon neutral mobility is possible. We want to make an active contribution to this transformation. By 2030, our production setup relies 100% on green energy, and our emissions will be reduced by 30% compared to 2018 levels.
Ambition & commitments
It is TAJCO’s ambition to be climate neutral by 2050.
An important milestone for achieving this goal is to secure a reduction of our energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
By 2030, we aim to have achieved carbon neutrality for our scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
By 2030, we aim to have reduced our scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 30% compared to 2020 levels.

The EU ‘End of Life Vehicles’ directive ensures that car parts, such as TAJCO trims, are recycled. In fact, the small amount of chromium used for TAJCO products is a useful component in the reuse of stainless steel.
Approach and focus areas
Data availability is essential for transforming an enterprise into a more environmentally sustainable business. We spent part of 2021 and 2022 on collecting data and gaining an understanding of our impact and the expectations of our customers.
Part of the process consisted of defining a baseline year. We have decided that 2020 is the baseline for our efforts.
Looking at our entire supply chain, we have sought to determine where we can make the biggest impact. We have learned that it is not in one specific area, but across:

Product Life-Cycle Assessments
Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) calculations are now an integrated element of TAJCO’s product engineering process. This process is used every time we create new products for our customers.
In 2023, TAJCO achieved a SAQ 5 score of 82. This is above industry standard.

Green energy deals for the TAJCO sites
As energy markets mature and become increasingly greener, enterprises like TAJCO have an obligation to opt for green energy sources. By signing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with green energy suppliers, we are able to transition to more sustainable electricity grids and reinforce our dedication to sustainable practice.
By 2024, all of TAJCO's locations will use green electricity through PPAs with the local power suppliers. The agreement is a significant milestone towards carbon neutrality by 2030.

Higher packaging density creates CO2eq saving
It goes without saying that it matters how you pack and stack components when you ship millions of products halfway across the world. You can lower your transport-related carbon footprint considerably by increasing your packaging efficiency. This is exactly what the TAJCO supply chain has set out to do.
For one specific product, the packaging efficiency was improved by seven percent, which in effect means a loading capacity increase of 33 percent per container. For this particular project, the total CO2eq emissions saving accumulates to 500 tons.
Needless to say, TAJCO will continue on this path of identifying packaging efficiency opportunities.
The reduction of materials makes an enormous difference
TAJCO’s use of stainless steel is our main contributor to emissions. Therefore, we set out to reduce the amount of steel used per part where possible for a handful of products. After a thorough analysis and a focused effort by the engineering team, we managed to reduce the amount of stainless steel used per part without compromising the quality and durability. During the first half of 2023, we went through this exercise for four programmes and achieved a CO2eq saving of more than 3.624 tons for the entirety of these programmes.
